UPDATE: 1/21/12 Occupy Oregon General Assembly

as of Friday afternoon, 20th January:

Bill here from Occupy Salem Oregon.

The weather is totally not with us for an outdoor event, so we’ve changed the place. We’ll be indoors!

The new site is First Congregational Church, 700 Marion St NE, Salem 97301, five blocks from the Capitol. Parking is free on streets all around on Saturdays. The schedule and agenda remain the same but the band has cancelled, so we’ll have to entertain ourselves. We’ll rally at noon, with speakers and a speak-out, march downtown at 1pm, and hold the first Occupy Oregon General Assembly right after the march. The space is reserved from 11 to 5.

Please pass on this information to everyone who made plans to be at the Occupy Oregon Assembly rally this Saturday, or is still thinking about it. It will certainly be more comfortable indoors, and will likely be more productive. Bring signs for the march! Since the day marks two years since the horrible Citizens United v. FEC decision, corporate personhood, money as speech, and a constitutional amendment to end them is the focus.

We’ll have access to coffee and tea equipment and a sink, but not cooking facilities or utensils. Food to share would be nice and we’ll need to bring our own coffee, tea, and utensils.

We will have people at the steps to redirect to the church.  We will be in the basement, room for about 300
Occupy Oregon!

Info as of Tuesday, January 18th:

Saturday Jan 21st.The rally is on!
Starting 10am on the capitol grounds in Salem

Tables and booths can be set up by the different occupations that are
represented, as well as by work groups, committees, organizations,
etc. There will be time for mingling, getting to know everyone from
around the state and what they are doing. We can start talking, and
deciding, about what the state GA will look like, what the agendas can
be, where do we go from here, etc.

Music is being provided by Sol Seed they will be performing on the
capitol steps.
There are some good, knowledgeable speakers that will be talking
during the day. We may even have an open mic session.

The march will begin at 12:00 – 1:00 pm. We will be stopping at
various places like the Oregon Supreme Court building, the Associated
Oregon Industries offices, and others.

The GA will begin at 3:00-4:00 pm
The GA is a big part of this! Occupations from all over the state will
be together, showing unity and strength, making future plans, setting
agendas. It will be whatever we make it.

This rally is also the starting point of “Occupy the Legislature”
beginning on Feb 1st. Which is the opening day of the 2012 legislative
session. Much of the the discussion/planning that will be happening on
Jan 21st will be on this subject. We’ll be dealing with legislative
issues, corporate political power issues, lobbyists, the internal
legislative processes, and so forth. Bring your ideas!
In these next few days we need to continue to contact our fellow
occupiers around the state and encourage them to get to Salem. Even a
few folks from each of the occupations would be great!

On Saturday, January 21, 2012, from 5:00 pm to 10 pm, Occupiers from all over Oregon will gather in Salem to rally with representatives from Astoria, Bend, Eugene, Salem, Portland, Seaside, and all other Oregon Cities to prepare for Occupy the Legislature on February 1st.

We will have an agenda discussion, which will include political involvement tactics, non-violent civil disobedience, and logistics.

We will be discussing housing options for people coming from outside of the Salem regions, so we can make sure thousands of Oregonians can be present on the first in a timely fashion.

Inspired by Occupy Wall Street, affinity groups from Unified Oregon Occupations are holding a General Assembly, following the nationwide Occupy the Courts Solidarity demonstration, on the steps of the Capitol Building in Salem.

If we show Solidarity, we can have an action similar to the protests in Madison, Wisconsin.

Corporations are NOT people. Money is NOT Speech. ALEC and profit driven lobbyists will no longer control our government. The time has come to make these truths evident to the Capital.

Exercise your freedom and challenge systemic oppression. Occupy Multiply!

1/23/12 OCCUPY YOUR BODY: Awaken Your Heart: Global Dance Wave

Calling all Believers in MOVEMENT! You are invited to participate in OCCUPY YOUR BODY: Awaken Your Heart, A Global Dance Wave on January 22, 2012 at 12 noon.
We as Conscious Dancers would like to add our wisdom to the collective vision emerging from the Occupy Movement. Here in Eugene, we will be hosting an additional Occupy Your Body dance from noon until 2 p.m.
OCCUPY has a message of transformation, a message about the need for change. We as dancers and spiritual seekers know the pathway of personal transformation. It is time for us to apply our wisdom to help bring about state, national and global transformations. We as dancers know the power of Embodiment. We know that when we are connected to our bodies, true transformation is possible. We know that when we connect the mind and the body and awaken the heart, we will be able to make the changes necessary. We offer OCCUPY YOUR BODY as a prayer for this awakening and our global transformation. On Sunday, January 22, 2012 at 12 noon, Conscious Dancers will dance a wave of movement that will circle the globe. Together, we are
ONE WAVE. ONE BODY. ONE HEART.On January 22 (as close to 12 noon as possible), dancing communities including Rhythms, Ecstatic, Conscious Dance, Soul Motion, Nia and any other kinds of conscious movement, will gather and dance, holding this prayer of EMBODIMENT, each with our own particular flavor, all with the same intention to allow the power of embodiment to be part of the global conversation in whatever way it can serve.Movement is needed. LET’S MOVE.

1/23/12 Urban Ninja Banks March

Larger version of flyer.

A day of Direct Action Against the Banks!

At noon on January 23rd 2012 we will rally at Wayne Morse Free Speech Plaza through Non-Violent Direct Action against the banks! Dress like a ninja! Wear black! Form affinity groups!

We are requesting donations of black fabric, black ski-masks, black clothing and flyer and banner making supplies. If you have materials you wish to donate please contact Tango Down either by sending us a message on Facebook or email us at oetangodown[at]gmail.com

Here is one video example of Ninja Awesomeness from Occupy Wall Street:

Below are the guidelines outlined by Tango Down, the organizers of this action, and in the interests of solidarity please respect these parameters. The parameters outlined below apply to this march. This goes both ways – please be respectful enough of the event to not pursue certain actions at this time if they are being put on the “please don’t” list; likewise, if you are uncomfortable with someone performing an action that is acceptable within the march parameters do not interfere with them.

This is respect for diversity of tactics, and also proper solidarity in the face of our common enemy. There will come a day that these practices, discipline and restraint will serve us well as a unit.

If you cannot follow the parameters do not attend. They will be read before the march during the rally. People will be given the opportunity to back out if they feel they cannot respect the tactics, with no loss of face.

This is not a march intended for people who are not fully comfortable with a diversity of tactics. You are not recommended to attend if you are not willing to wear black, or are not down with ninjas, as you will stand out among the rest.

Action Purpose: To hold corporate banks accountable for their assault on our community and our earth. The most appropriate way to do this is through the disruption of capital. Use your imagination!! See the video link above :-)

Tango Down Action Parameters: No damage to “private property” of any kind: people’s cars, local Eugene businesses – these are off limits.

Split-off marches and autonomous actions are encouraged
. If you do decide to go your own route, please respect the above parameters. If you decide to split off, do your autonomous actions away from the main march, not right next to it. You are encouraged to be creative – autonomous actions can begin hours prior to the primary action, during the action, or even later in the day. Large banks, huge international corporations, and governmental offices/property are not considered private property for the purposes of the parameters.

We are not encouraging anyone to attack any property whatsoever, but some property is more acceptable than others if you really must risk your freedom by doing something of that nature. Please keep in mind the legal and social ramifications of all of your actions, and be aware of how your choices affect the movement as a whole.

NINJA: If you hear the call, “NINJAS!” it is in your best interest to clump together with the main group in tight formation. Be aware of distance and do not string out along the march route. Do not give the police an opportunity to snatch you and plant evidence on you to conflate charges with.

We are all adults. We are all comrades. We have a common enemy and we will have to learn to work as a unit. Thank you for your cooperation.

*This is an OFFICIAL Occupy Eugene Event, per approval through the Occupy Eugene Actions Committee.*

The Occupy City Hall Dinner Party – & City Council Meeting

We will have dinner outside city council chambers at City Hall starting at 6pm this coming Monday night, February 13. To make the evening more memorable, please wear the costume of your favorite OE action figure….maybe ninja wear, maybe tent monster gear, maybe dressed as the 1% or as the 99%, maybe dressed in nothing, maybe dressed in something for an action yet to come….

If you haven’t seen an OE family member for a while, search around for them and bring them along. We can Occupy a public place together for a while and also remind City Council we have not forgotten the circumstances of the WJP protest site, their disbanding camp and failing to provide alternative shelter.

After dinner come inside to council chambers to the city council public meeting and listen to public comment time. Support fellow Occupiers as they deliver testimony to city council and the public.

The Eugene City Council now has a draft resolution opposing Corporate Personhood, which was drafted by the city attorney. It calls on our congressional delegation to support an amendment to the United States Constitution which reverses the effect of the “Citizens United” Supreme Court decision. The draft resolution also calls on the city attorney to research putting this measure on the ballot for the public to vote on. Please tell the council if you support this measure, and particularly that you want the people to be able to vote on it.

Sign up for the 3 minute public comment period starting at 7 PM. Meeting and comments start at 7:30 PM.

Where: City Council Chambers, 777 Pearl, Eugene

When: Monday, Feb. 13th. Dinner in the courtyard at 6pm, Council Meeting 7-9pm.

Dinner contact: Jennifer Frenzer-Knowlton ; 531 731 1428; kokomojo0664@msn.com
Big John McCahill: 541 653 4232

Draft resolution on Corporate Personhood contact: Fergus Mclean; (541) 937-3034; willamettedams@Q.com

A chance for public input on the City Council Corporate Personhood resolution.

When we were ordered to disband, decamp and denied access to WJP, our home was taken and the winter shelter promised by the city was not provided. We can gather regularly in larger and larger numbers to remind city hall of its promise, unfulfilled at the expense of several Occupiers going still without a safe place to live or basic shelter for sleeping. We can regather, share a meal by Big John and Diesel together, strengthen community and recreate a public hearth for the evening at City Hall. We can persist in making our collective demands to have safe winter shelter and fuel our solidarity.
