Open Forum on Systemic Inequality and the Occupy Movement

Postby Eli » Tue Nov 08, 2011 4:45 pm

The Allies Workgroup will be hosting its first open forum this Sunday, 4pm, in the Dome at W/J Park. The proposed topic is systemic inequality, its relation to the Occupy movement, and what we can do to address it in Occupy Eugene.

Specifically, we can talk about people's experiences or knowledge of classism, heterosexism, racism, and sexism. How are they institutionalized, how do they overlap and reinforce each other, and how do they affect the Occupy movement's ability to be leader-free and democratic?

While this event is open to anyone, it is also a Safe Space for conversation about inequality. Respect is mandatory, and intolerance is unacceptable.

For background info, see any of these links: Rules for Allies, The Combahee River Collective Statement, and Inequality.org

You can also see the Facebook event page for the open forum here.

In solidarity,
Eli
