Committee Reports

Medical – Sue reported about the Health Care as a Human Right lobby day in Salem last Monday and will write an article about it in the next newsletter. She says Val Hoyle supports the Hcasa HR bill and they are still working on Nancy Nathanson. If anyone wants to go to Salem and meet with Nancy contact Sue. The dental clinic reopens with its own tent this Sunday February 10. The Friday clinic at Reality Kitchen is on hold temporarily; another vaccine clinic is coming soon and the next dental extraction day will have 7 chairs instead of only 2! OE Medical has received grants but also needs vitamins and herbal supplements as well as volunteers, even folks with no medical training are needed.

Newsletter – Vicki reports that the newsletter is closer to becoming self supporting. Several people are interested in underwriting which for a non profit is different than advertising. The past two issues cost around $500 for 3000 issues, dropping to 2000 issues saves only $50. Submissions are welcome on topics relevant to Occupy; the deadline for the Mar/Apr issue is Feb 15th. Newsletter meetings are Tuesdays 3pm at Grower’s Market.

Actions –doing long range planning for summer activities. Meetings are Thursday at 5:30 at Grower’s. Actions will be tabling at the Social Justice conference on Friday February 15th. All groups are welcome to bring any printed handouts or materials to share. There is a P.A.N.D.A march planned for early March at the E-law conference regarding the NDAA. March 11th is the 2 year anniversary of Fukushima; there is a march planned in connection with the U of O Survival Center students.

Media – Jana has been working on posting 49 Occupy TV show and a play list with 13 training videos on Occupy Eugene video on YouTube. There are a total of 126 videos from Occupy Eugene Media on YouTube now, this is a national connection with other Occupys.

Fund raising Working group – meets Friday 2pm February 22 at Grower’s. There is a Papa’s Pizza fund raiser coming up and bigger ideas down the road.

Bank Busters – is having a fund raiser for Occupy; movie night at Cozmic Pizza April 8th. ‘The Secret of Oz’ about the symbolism regarding banks and money in the movie ‘The Wizard of Oz’.

Proposals:

Newsletter requests $497 to print 3000 issues for the Mar/Apr edition. This was approved by the group after discussion about the need for fund raising to make the newsletter self supporting. There is little to no money coming in to Occupy and about $1800 left.

Website – there was a long discussion about the various features and benefits of the old and new websites. The bottom line is that Jana is keeping the plates spinning in both websites and becoming overwhelmed updating them both. We need to find someone who can put some work into this who has WordPress skills and can consolidate and administrate one website. Jana and Chase will continue what they are doing until such a person is identified; at some point Chase wants to turn over everything he does to someone else. The group decided to get the old website functional and try to get more energy for the website committee to bring a proposal to the next second Friday GA. PR needs to be done for any change that is made.

Announcements:

Anti Nuclear Event – Lonnie presented information about the lack of media coverage of the ongoing effects of radiation from Fukushima. She brought flyer's about an event at Harris Hall Thursday March 14 7-9 pm. The speaker will be Kevin Blanch an anti nuclear activist. Lonnie would like to get a group to meet about this on a regular basis. Actions is planning an event on the date of the tsunami, March 11 to create interest in the subject; maybe a Nuclear Awareness Week!

Donation – Rob sold 10 of his Occupy portrait books and is donating $5 per book, total $50. Yay Rob!

H.E.A.L. (Helping Enable Activist’s Lifestyles) – Tuesday and Saturday noon-2 at the Unitarian Universalist Church In Eugene at 1685 W 13th Ave,, free yoga and bodywork for activists and organizers only. Starts February 23(?) with John and Sabra.

Compassionate Communication Workshop – at Reality Kitchen Monday night February 18th. Possibility of a weekly practice group.

Occupy Kesey Square - Peter Groticelli is holding a 24/7 action at Kesey Square on a semi-permanent basis depending on weather and police harassment . He welcomes anyone to visit or join him and has had street kid involvement and support. He requests Friday GA’s be held at Kesey Square.

Good minutes. But I do need to correct the newsletter statement.

The first sentence should say, Vickie reports that while the newsletter's goal is to become as close to self-supporting as possible, we are not there yet.
