Occupy Eugene and the IWW to Hold Buy Nothing Day Coat Exchange

What: Buy Nothing Day winter coat exchange (gloves and hats too!)
If you have a coat to give, drop it off. If you need a coat, pick one up. Join the global holiday from consumerism. Spend the day without spending.

Including: Local art and musicians Aeon Now, David Rodgers and Patrick Dodd
Refreshments of hot chocolate, coffee, spiced cider, bagels and donuts

When: Fri. Nov. 25th, 11 am-3 pm

Where: 55 W. Broadway Eugene, OR

Who: Cosponsored by Occupy Eugene and the Lane branch-Industrial Workers of the World

Why: Traditionally one of the biggest retail spending days of the year, we will encourage a different kind of exchange on Black Friday.

On November 25th 2011 – the busiest day in the American retail calendar and the unofficial start of the international Christmas-shopping season – thousands of activists and concerned citizens in 65 countries will take a 24-hour consumer detox as part of the annual Buy Nothing Day, a global phenomenon that originated in Vancouver, Canada. Some see it as an escape from the marketing mind games and the frantic consumer binge that has come to characterize the holiday season, and our culture in general. Others use it to expose the environmental and ethical consequences of over-consumption.

The idea is an exchange amongst community: those who can, donate a coat, those who need, take a coat.

This press release has been approved by the general assembly of Occupy Eugene.
