Occupy Eugene Calls for Moratorium on Foreclosures in Oregon: Many Are Illegal

This Friday, May 11, 2012, at 12 p.m. at the Lane County Courthouse (125 E. 8th Ave.), the Occupy Eugene Foreclosure Action Committee will hold a press conference calling on Governor John Kitzhaber and Attorney General John Kroger to implement an immediate, emergency moratorium on all foreclosures in Oregon.

On March 5, the final day of the 2012 session, the Oregon legislature passed a foreclosure reform bill which requires banks to be truthful and responsive to homeowners having difficulty making their house payments. It is estimated that the new Oregon Foreclosure law, Oregon Senate Bill 1552B, will save the homes of about half of the families being foreclosed on under existing law.

Oregon Senate Bill 1552B was recently signed into law by Governor Kitzhaber but does not go into affect until July. In the meantime, an estimated 2,000 more homeowners could enter foreclosure, without the protections that Senate Bill 1552 offers. An immediate moratorium will drastically reduce the number of Oregonians losing their homes to fraudulent foreclosures!

For Atty Gen Kroger:
