Needs List For All Committies

Postby Moon » Fri Nov 18, 2011 8:18 pm

Was thinking it may be good to start a needs list for committees on the forum.
I didn't see this going on so apologies if there is a duplicate.

Any other committees have winter needs due to the weather changes? Please share.
And please remember to update your lists.

Sanitation Needs

Postby Marie_S » Sat Nov 19, 2011 1:01 am

Help Sort
We need people to help sort trash and recycling. This coming week we will
only have one main person sorting all of the trash and recycling. That is
a big task. Please people, step up and help sort trash and recycling.
It has been difficult getting people to participate or follow the bin
guidelines.

Dump Runs
Occupy Eugene needs a few people to pick one to two days out of the week
to make dump runs. Today between 8am and 3 pm, 8 large trash bags were
added to the trailer, to give you an idea of how much trash we are
producing. We need somebody every day to take the trailer to the dump, at
this point Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday need to be filled more than
MWF.

Recycling Runs
Occupy Eugene needs a few people to make recycling runs every day too. We
try to sort the recycling and bag it separately so it can be dropped off
easily. We'd like to create a schedule so that we know we can count on
people to help out.

Compost Retrieval
Occupy Eugene needs some people to take the compost as well. Right now, we
only have one person who takes the compost and she does it by bike
trailer.

Port-a-Potty Caretaking Team
We need any brave souls that want to take on the role of port-a-potty
caretakers. The duties would be to double check the units have been
serviced as scheduled and that Bucks has marked off the doors of the units
when they are serviced. The other duties would be re-filling TP in the
units when it is low, cleaning up messes inside the units, and closing off
units when needed. The caretakers would report on the port-a-potty
checklist located in the info booth under the Sanitation volunteer sign-up
sheet. The caretakers would also contact the Bucks contact person from the
Sanitation committee, currently that is Marie, to request extra servicing
or report issues.

Attend Sanitation Committee Meetings
We have a committee meeting every Thursday at 5:30p, but we will NOT be
holding one on 11/24. Our next meeting will be Thursday 12/1/2011 at
5:30pm.

Donations

Money to Bucks OE Acct 541-342-3905
55 gallon Clear Plastic Bags
55 gallon bio-bags for compost
Re-useable Gloves
Duct Tape
Bins to keep supplies and clothing donations dry
Laundry Soap
Camp Showers
Sauna ;)

Hello Committees Who Plan Events!

We want to help you publicize your events in the most efficient way possible!

We approved the following proposal at a recent meeting:

Proposal: When there are requests to add calendar events (on Facebook Group, Website, Google Calendar, Email Announce, Flier) they must first have been approved through the Actions Committee. Approved

Here's what we need (first sent to oec_actions [at] lists.riseup.net and get their buy-in, then send to oec_communications [at] lists.riseup.net):

*Date
*Time
*Location of event
*event details - what is it? What is it about? (i.e. a little blurb we can use to make fliers and Facebook events)
*what you want us to do - i.e. Facebook event? Google Calendar posting? Fliers? Post to website?

I know y'all are stretched thin - so are we, but if we could get this info as far in advance as possible, that would be awesome.

Thank you for the work you do!

Katie

Great ... I just asked Gordon to do this. Is this a circle completed or co-joined idea?

Is there a way to have 'post reply' after each committee entry? That means people can talk to that committtee's needs directly.

Whiteaker NAC needs facilitator(s) for this first NAC meeting on Sunday Nov 27th from 12noon until 2-3, depending. We will have an OE sponsored meeting incorporating the facilitation process of the OE. Discussions, agenda items, and proposals will be focused on the Foreclosure threat that is sweeping across this neighborhood, (over 150 in the 97402 zip code) and tens of thousands across our nation. Occupy Foreclosures.

Okay, I'm not officially on the committee so don't kill the messenger. We need a better cart so that kitchen can get water from 711 without constantly getting stuck in sidewalk cracks and holes. A shopping cart is what we currently have. A heavy duty garden cart or similar is what we need. Must have bigger wheels and be able to carry 250 lbs or more over uneven surfaces.

Apparently BigJohn has a plan for the water transport system. Hope it's up and running soon. The current method is a bear.

Neighborhood Action Committee/ the Bank Busters
1- As many folks as possible to help welcome Good Grief America who will be co-hosting this sundays meeting at the Reality Kitchen, at 11am. GGA and I, just me, (and OE need you in on this), have talked about working together on this major and most critical issue. Do we want to work with an outside entity? In what capacity? How should we approach this? Want me to make all the decisions? I sure hope not, but I will without you. So be there.
2- letter writers, to the folks being foreclosed on
3-Flyer designs
4-yard sign designs and builders
5-door to door, direct NAC introduction teams.
6-action ideas to be developed- foreclosure occupations and more
7-ecovillage designers and builders
8- some funding for these things
9-and some I have surely missed-

Elder tent

Postby cswriter1 » Fri Dec 09, 2011 10:08 pm

I am dealing with an increasing number of elderly homeless. They do not always come with tents and sleeping bags, so I have converted the abandoned children's tent into a tent for the elderly.

I have promised the elderly women a tea this Saturday. Hopefully, it will lead to a support group? It would nice to have a way to heat water and heat the tent.

We might coordinate with other social services? Some of these people have monthly checks and I am not sure why housing is a problem for them, but may be a better coordination with services would resolve some of the problems. Personally, I don't have the ability to supply bedding, dishes, silverware, and warm coats for people who come from California, not expecting it to be so cold, but on the other hand, ignoring their needs doesn't seem appropriate either. Like doesn't surviving the night mean at least a way to stay warm?

Wet sleeping bags and clothes have been left in the elder tent and this stuff is molding and turning into garbage. Money to launder this stuff would be nice. Today I dried a blanket and gave it to the new woman, and I hope no one claims it and fights her for it. Like we have no system for deciding who can sleep where and what belongs to whom, and what is to be done with what is left in the tent, so I have had to make decisions and just pray no one objects to the decisions I make. I really don't like this, and would prefer better organization, and avoiding problems.

Updated! (12/11/08) List of Sanitation Needs:

Sanitation Committee always welcomes Donations and new Volunteers!

To learn more:

*Attend a sanitation committee meeting Thursdays at 5:30 at World Cafe 449 Blair Blvd, Eugene, Oregon.
*If you are on-site, please ask for Dale or Karen.
*E-mail the sanitation committee: oec_sanitation [at] lists.riseup.net

Current Donation Needs:
*Toilet Paper
*Disposable Gloves
--Large or Medium
*55-Gallon Trash Bags (Clear ones are preferred, since they are easier to use for sorting recycling)
*55-Gallon Biodegradable Bags for Compost
*Non-Disposable Work Gloves--Large or Medium

Volunteer opportunities include:

Help with Sorting
We need people to help sort trash and recycling. Our new Co-mingling dumpster makes this task easier. Anyone can help with

trash/recycling. Please check in with Sanitation Committee if you are unsure of proper sorting of materials.

Removal of Recycling:
This needs to be done about once a week. Our co-mingle dumpster handles most of our recycling, but we still need someone

to remove glass, plastic bags, propane canisters, other misc plastic, and scrap metal from the site (take to Eco-Sort).

Port-a-Potty Caretaking Team:
We need any brave souls that want to take on the role of port-a-potty caretakers. The duties would be re-filling TP in the

units when it is low (TP is available at the info booth), cleaning the insides the units when necessary, and closing off

units when needed. The caretakers would also help to make sure Bucks has been servicing Port-A-Potties and pumping kitchen

gray water on schedule. Schedule is listed at: https://we.riseup.net/occupyeugene+sani ... ks-service Please contact

the Bucks contact person if service has not been performed or to report any issues.
Currently the Bucks contact person is Karen: (971)678-0839 ok to text, or Karen77Lee@hotmail.com

**We no longer need people to remove trash from the site as we now have a dumpster!**
*Compost is being taken care of, but if you want to help with that, let us know!
