I started photography at the age of 13, but soon began journalism and photojournalism around the age of 15, through our school paper. My brother was a journalist in high school, and I idolized what he was doing, and followed right along. I photographed protests any chance I could, and Occupy had given me a huge platform to practice my art. There were full time occupations, people with so much compassion, and people working together for the common good of all. People are learning their rights, and finally taking a stand for them, which is something I have had a passion for all my life. I had participated in many actions before, and for most of my life, I was raised that it was okay to put my life and freedom in jeopardy, in an effort to change this world, if I felt it was right.
I’ve seen activist events come and go. I’ve photographed and participated in so many, but none like Seattle’s WTO, until Occupy formed, but Occupy was very different. It was a whole new set of ideologies and a new way to approach the indifference in our world. Having passion for the cause, and a camera in hand, I set off to photograph an amazing era that will go down in history, and has already changed the world!
