Occupy Eugene warmly invites the community of Eugene/Springfield to an Occupy Eugene Community Conversation.
Who: Occupy Eugene Community Conversations Committee – Occupy Eugene, Eugene City of Peace, Community Alliance of Lane County (CALC), Beyond War, Women’s Actions for New Directions (WAND), Eugene-Springfield Solidarity Network/Jobs with Justice. We meet every Tuesday at 3:30 PM in the dome at Occupy Eugene.
What: Occupy Eugene Community Conversation
Where: Harris Hall at 8th and Oak Avenue in the Lane County Public Services Building
When: Monday, December 5th and 12th, 7-9:00 PM
Why: To provide an opportunity to bring our citizens’ best wisdom forth, and to build a democratic consensus for living together in harmony in hopes that Eugene will be a role model for our nation.
The following questions will be addressed:
• Why did you come, what is best possible outcome tonight for you?
• Regardless of how you feel about OE, what helpful or useful things have we learned so far from OE?
• How can we create collaborative partnerships amongst the city, OE, citizens, educational institutions, businesses, non-profits, faith communities, health care providers and others to seek short and long-term community solutions?
We encourage people who disagree with the goals, strategies or tactics of Occupy Eugene to attend this event, as we want ALL sides of the issues expressed in a non-threatening manner. This conversation will be facilitated by a team from Community Mediation Services. They will be modeling and teaching the skill of paraphrasing within the format of an “open fishbowl” that invites audience members to participate. The first facilitated discussion that Occupy Eugene had with the City Manager and Chief of Police brought out 100 percent agreement on the goal of win-win solutions. Let’s build on that.
