INTERVIEWS WITH PEOPLE LIVING IN THE EUGENE SAFE SPOT ON ROOSEVELT AVENUE

Community Supported Shelters (CSS) manages the Eugene Safe Spot on Roosevelt Avenue. It was the first site opened by CSS. Managing the site is a lot of constant hard work. While residents also help, CSS is still always in need of volunteers. The rewards are indescribable. There is no way to capture the deep appreciation expressed by people helped at the safe spot. These sites give the unhoused a sense that they live in a community that cares.  Sometimes that is all that someone needs to be able to do better.

Certain essential needs must be met for a person to survive. This is what the safe spots offer–A safe place to sleep, shelter from the weather, use of a bathroom, storage of belongings, and access to water.  These are a few of the things identified by residents as the vital help they receive through CSS. This is immeasurable for its residents.  In interview after interview you will hear how much it means to people to have a safe spot to sleep in.
