Please enjoy the following photos taken at Eugene’s Safe Spot on Roosevelt Avenue. While tent shelters are far from a permanent solution for the unhoused, they do offer a major improvement from the conditions most residents suffered before staying at the Roosevelt camp. Platforms keep the tents off the ground, so they stay dryer and warmer. The extra tarp mounted above each tent helps for protection from the weather also.
The Roosevelt Safe Spot has a solar power system that was designed by Ray, a man who lives on the site with his son. Ray is currently putting together systems for power at the other Safe Spots also. There are raised bed gardens built and maintained by the residents and a community shared kitchen. The port-a-potty there that is accessible for disabled persons, exemplifies the effort of the Roosevelt Safe Spot to help people that really need it.
