WHOVILLE – Offers Vital Shelter

The photos and videos in this section depict the harsh reality of living without a home.  While tent shelters at Whoville seem inadequate from a modern American perspective, they represent the most basic needs of our unhoused being met.  The need for shelter and sleep is simple logic but to the shame of our country, it is illegal for anyone unhoused to shelter themselves to sleep in most U.S. cities.  Unhoused people are breaking the law in Eugene, just by using a blanket.

The purpose of the Whoville Protest Camp was to educate the public by showing them how life is for unhoused people.  So they could more fully understand the need for legal places to sleep, the public was able to talk with campers living in their illegal tent shelters through winter rains and snow storms.
