As winter began again, the Whoville Protest became re-invigorated. Since being evicted from Hilyard on April 4, 2014 there had been little progress toward opening the rest stop, meant to help Whoville protesters. Winter was coming and a solution was needed, so Whoville set up their new Protest Camp on 6th Avenue by the Federal Courthouse. Signs and tents went up with an upside down flag raised as an International sign of distress. The hardship caused by being forced to live without shelter or sleep creates a situation that is not healthy for the unhoused or the communities we all live in. Whoville’s stand is that the first thing that must be done to find solutions is to stop criminalizing people for that which cannot be avoided.
