12.11 Good Grief America to Co-host NAC Meeting

Got a problem with banks foreclosing on your home? Who ya gonna call?

The OE Bank Busters!

Good Grief America (GGA) has offered to co-host our next Neighborhood Action Committee (NAC) gathering this coming Sunday, the 11th, at 11am. We will meet again at the Reality Kitchen there on 245 Van Buren. This will be an info packed meeting. GGA has been involved in the Foreclosure issue for over three years now.

They have paved ways where Occupy Eugene NAC has only begun to scratch the surface. Nancie from GGA said we can stop/slow down almost every foreclosure proceedings here in Eugene and Lane County, and completely turn many of these illegal actions around.

Get your family, friends and neighbors to this meeting. It could easily become standing room only so bring a chair. See you there.

12.12 OCCUPY YOUR HEART – Candlelight Vigil

A candlelight vigil will commence at 4:15 PM at City Hall in time for the city council working session (5:30pm) and extending until after the 7:30 pm City Council meeting and Council Vote. There will be a scheduled program of music and activities!

Please Bring Candles, Lighters, and Cups to Hold Candles.

We would love to have a calm gathering of folks “holding” city council, city officials and EPD in our hearts and creating a collective intention of compassion as Council considers their decision to extend Occupy Eugene’s exemption to allow OE to continue camping.

Both for the sake of the Occupy movement and for fellow citizens who live without housing and who have become integral to our local Occupy movement. Occupy Eugene’s occupation site is located at the South End of Washington/Jefferson Park between 6th and 7th Ave.

12.11 Free classes: Understanding the Constitution

Constitution Class Flyer Starting Sunday, December 11th at the Washington-Jefferson Park Occupation site is a series of free classes about analyzing the US Constitution.

Organizers are planning on this class being a weekly session. Unless people ask for the time/date to change, it will be on Sundays at 3pm at the Occupation site, open to the public.

The first class will be held with John Davidson from the UO. The intention is to break the Constitution down so that average citizens can understand what it means and what it means in their lives.

We want people to start thinking about real systemic change, and how the documents that run this system work and how they might work better for us. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Elizabeth Yandel at plantacara[at]gmail.com

Petition to the Mayor and City Council

PETITION TO THE MAYOR AND CITY COUNCIL OF EUGENE, OR

We the undersigned request that the City of Eugene continue to partner with Occupy Eugene to provide a safe community to the hundreds of homeless who have been forced onto the streets due to the economic injustices of our times and who have now found a safe community at the Washington/Jefferson Park Village.

The citizens of Eugene have donated to Occupy Eugene: tents, sleeping bags, clothing, temporary building materials, kitchen equipment and sufficient food for the Occupation to cook and serve over a thousand meals a day to the hungry. The Occupy volunteers provide thousands of hours of volunteer work each month. We ask that the City of Eugene continue to make the encampment space available and also provide electricity and water to the site in order to assist the citizens and the volunteers create a more humane existence for the homeless we serve. This will help the Occupation continue to meet the needs of our local homeless while pushing forth with their agenda to address the national problems that cause homelessness and the many other problems of social and economic injustice.

We ask that the encampment be supported until we the people, the City of Eugene and Occupy Eugene are able to find a better solution for our fellow citizens who have no homes but those they now make at the Occupy Eugene encampment.

If you support our cause, please sign this petition, and share it with the people in your life. Click here for a printable PDF of the petition, and here for one with larger print.

Please bring your signed petitions to our Info Booth at Washington/Jefferson Park between 6th and 7th Avenues. Thank you for your support.

12.5 & 12.12 – Community Conversations

Occupy Eugene warmly invites the community of Eugene/Springfield to an Occupy Eugene Community Conversation.

Who: Occupy Eugene Community Conversations Committee – Occupy Eugene, Eugene City of Peace, Community Alliance of Lane County (CALC), Beyond War, Women’s Actions for New Directions (WAND), Eugene-Springfield Solidarity Network/Jobs with Justice. We meet every Tuesday at 3:30 PM in the dome at Occupy Eugene.

What: Occupy Eugene Community Conversation

Where: Harris Hall at 8th and Oak Avenue in the Lane County Public Services Building

When: Monday, December 5th and 12th, 7-9:00 PM

Why: To provide an opportunity to bring our citizens’ best wisdom forth, and to build a democratic consensus for living together in harmony in hopes that Eugene will be a role model for our nation.

The following questions will be addressed:

• Why did you come, what is best possible outcome tonight for you?
• Regardless of how you feel about OE, what helpful or useful things have we learned so far from OE?
• How can we create collaborative partnerships amongst the city, OE, citizens, educational institutions, businesses, non-profits, faith communities, health care providers and others to seek short and long-term community solutions?

We encourage people who disagree with the goals, strategies or tactics of Occupy Eugene to attend this event, as we want ALL sides of the issues expressed in a non-threatening manner. This conversation will be facilitated by a team from Community Mediation Services. They will be modeling and teaching the skill of paraphrasing within the format of an “open fishbowl” that invites audience members to participate. The first facilitated discussion that Occupy Eugene had with the City Manager and Chief of Police brought out 100 percent agreement on the goal of win-win solutions. Let’s build on that.
